Our pilot support and financial-aid project for refugee families from Ukraine, which we are co-creating with IOM Poland, has reached its halfway point. It is time for the first summary of our work over the past month.

The Fundacja Q & IOM Poland project includes three stationary offices operating in Nowa Deba, Rzeszow, and Sanok, as well as one mobile office serving beneficiaries across the whole region. In recent weeks, the mobile team has reached Rozalin, Rzemien, Zaklikow, Polanczyk, Solina, Tarnobrzeg, Stalowa Wola, Gorzyce, Jaroslaw, and Mielec. The plan for the mobile office is to register people in more towns across Podkarpacie so that we can reach everyone who needs support.

As of 5 September 2022, 543 families had been registered in the project, including 1,424 people. Fundacja Q has already managed to contact more than five thousand refugees. The first registrations began in mid-August, and the refugees who completed their application documents at that time have already received payments from IOM to their bank accounts.

The results of Fundacja Q’s work show that support for Ukrainian families is still needed, while also easing the burden on municipalities, counties, and social-assistance centres. Financial support within the project is granted according to specific eligibility requirements (as of 5 September 2022):

• people aged 50 and over,
• people who are not employed and have no income,
• people with disabilities and their carers,
• mothers with two or three children.

Each beneficiary must prepare the following documents and information (requirements as of 5 September 2022):

• ID card, passport, or birth certificate,
• IBAN bank account number,
• SWIFT code,
• phone number,
• disability declaration, if applicable.

Families can be registered by a single person acting as the head of the family or an adult representative.

Importantly, the project also makes it possible to assess the criteria for receiving support, and our staff are already noticing certain groups that should also be included in future assistance.

During fieldwork, our teams also try to understand the needs of refugees from Ukraine who are staying in larger groups across Podkarpacie, for example in schools, fire stations, or aid centres. We are gathering information on how to support them in the coming months, including in the areas of food and education. So far, four such environmental interviews have been carried out in order to prepare appropriate support steps in the following weeks.

All project activities are discussed and planned in detail by the whole project team during daily meetings, so that everyone can contribute ideas and observations. We are entering the next month of the project with optimism and with the strong hope that we will manage to reach every person interested in support.
